Artwork Backstory:

This is the second in a series of five paintings depicting the different flowers that cover the landscape in the southwestern United States after a good rainy season.

Desert Marigolds symbolize strength due to their ability to survive in harsh conditions. They have deep roots that allow them to withstand prolonged drought and grow bright yellow every year. The other surrounding flowers in this painting are Purpletop Verbena, California Poppies, and Arroyo Lupins.

Artwork Details:

This artwork combines precise realism with loose wet-on-wet technique, mimicking a photographic low depth of field that helps up focus on a small cluster of flowers.

Original watercolor painting on Arches cold press paper, 2024.
