Artwork Backstory

I had a brief period where I was playing around with toned charcoal on tinted paper - this is one of the cooler results.

I came across a stack of my parents old photo prints and this image caught my eye. I could feel the ghost of family dinners outside, laughter, great conversation. I felt compelled to draw my version of it.

I found out after I showed my parents this drawing that this was our backyard in the apartment we lived in when I was a small child. You don’t remember much when you’re that young, but some feelings stick with you. I think that’s what pulled me to this image instinctively.

Nostalgia for a part of your life that you can barely remember is a strange but powerful sensation.
